A man wakes up in what appears to be a forest, unsure of where he is and what he has done. He vaguely recalls a plane crash and attempting to kill his wife while making it out alive. Everyone else was killed--how did he escape? He makes his way back to the plane and follows a long winding path. Eventually, he comes across what looks like an abandoned cabin--something that should not exist in the middle of the forest. As soon as he enters, something seems familiar; something seems off, yet there's no denying its familiarity at the same time. A title card shows "six months later". The man, later revealed to be David Norris (played by the director of the movie himself, George Nolfi) has been in a mental institution since his wife's death, and is almost ready to go back into society. In a surprise twist, the doctor tells David that he is not insane, but rather his mind is stuck in a time loop. Every time he wakes up from this recurring forest scene, he will always feel as if nothing has changed. However, when he goes back to sleep, or when someone rubs his face with a handkerchief with a particular symbol on it (the same one on the plane), everything resets and changes around him...except for him. David is determined to find out what happened to his wife, so he escapes from the mental institution, hoping to track down Elise. He goes back to the apartment they shared, hoping to find some clue as to where she could have gone. He finds out her name after hacking into her bank account, which shows that she has been working for a company called The Adjustment Bureau. It's then that David gets into his car and drives off with nothing but the knowledge that he must find this Adjustment Bureau. After much searching, David finally stumbles upon the Adjustment Bureau. He approaches the receptionist to inquire about Elise. Before he can make himself known, however, he is whisked away by men in suits. They reveale to him that they are The Adjustment Bureau--an organization comprised of "men in black" whose sole purpose is to keep humans on their predetermined path in life. For example, if a person has taken an action that would lead to a different fate than one assigned to them at birth, Adjustment Agents would attempt to stop it from happening in any way possible--even if it meant altering the course of history itself. David is brought to the bureau's leader, played by Anthony Mackie (played by the director of the movie himself). It soon becomes clear that David was not sent here to find Elise, but rather he had been chosen for a task; one that required him to be put on an assignment. His job was to infiltrate The Adjustment Bureau and find out everything he could. He is given a partner, Thomas (played by Paul Giamatti), who is actually an Adjustment Agent in disguise--he would act as David's handler on the inside of this organization. With Thomas on his side, David gets deeper into this organization--and into Elise's life. cfa1e77820
