AutoCAD Autodesk owns the registered trademark Autodesk AutoCAD. The name Autodesk AutoCAD was used in the original Autodesk AutoCAD 1.0 release, but was replaced with AutoCAD in February 1992. The contest's early theme was "Optimization," and among ideas submitted were direct pressure from the user interface (UI) and visual display (VDI) in a work station. One of the winners of the "Optimization" contest was Jim Easter, who had founded his own CAD startup called Iconix in 1979, and who at the time had twenty employees working on the software.
